Legacy Park, MCPP 'active' portion projects on next PRAB agenda

Post Date:05/20/2026 4:20 PM

August.2022.drone.pictures2Milton’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets Thursday night to, among other things, discuss upcoming projects that will impact how people get in and out of two parks.

The May 21 meeting will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. In addition to attending in-person, people can watch the meeting online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hWz3nuip1I.

Consisting of seven members appointed by the City’s Mayor and Councilmembers, PRAB (as this committee is known) considers programs, projects, and policies related to Milton’s Parks and Recreation Department. Its members share their advice, insights, and opinions with City staff as well as City leadership.

PRAB meetings traditionally begin with Committee Reports, during which members learn the latest about various Milton-affiliated programs. These range from sports like Hopewell Baseball or the Milton Mustangs Swim Team, to youth and adults arts programs, to summer camps, to outdoor recreation activities, and much more.

These reports will be followed Thursday by discussions of three New Business items:

  1. A potential partnership with Basil Family Farm to offer agricultural classes, workshops, and related programs out of City facilities
  2. Another possible program partner – The Coder School Metro Atlanta – which could lead coding and robotics classes and camps
  3. How the City might rent out, including at what rate, all or some of Milton City Park and Preserve’s trail for organized events

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board next will dive into a pair of park projects that are in the works.

The first on the agenda, and also next in line to be built, is at Legacy Park. The City plans to expand and, while doing so, reconfigure the parking area for that athletic complex off Cox Road. Work is expected to begin early this summer.

After summer (or, at least, summer camp) ends, a different project could commence at Milton City Park and Preserve.

This will involve reconfiguring that parking lot, enhancing lighting around it, and adding a playground. The Milton Tennis Center will also be transformed, ultimately culminating in six courts (which is two more than are there now) as well as amenities like a viewing pavilion.

Earlier this month, the City Council approved extending through August 31, 2027, the terms of a $500,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for this project. While it could still be finished within the current timeline, the extension should help minimize disruptions to recreation services at the park.

Thursday’s meeting will continue with an update on the City’s Community Outreach efforts and public events. The next includes Milton’s Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on May 26 on the Green in downtown Crabapple, with an Independence Day celebration happening a few weeks later.

After this meeting, PRAB is next scheduled to convene on June 18.
