Part of Hopewell Road will be torn up, then transformed for the better starting this week.
Crews will do a “full-depth reclamation” of Hopewell between Birmingham and Hamby roads. This involves breaking down existing pavement until it becomes essentially a dirt road, then building it back up again. The end result should be a smoother, more durable, and altogether better Hopewell Road.
The work is expected to start around 9 on Wednesday morning, June 3. Early next week, ideally, fresh asphalt will be put down (which is the final step). Weather and other factors could impact this timeline, as is standard for all roadwork projects like this.
While this is all happening, drivers should expect significant delays along Hopewell Road. Flaggers will direct traffic, with pilot trucks guiding citizens in their vehicles in one direction at a time. That means, of course, those wishing to go in the opposite direction will have to wait.
After Hopewell Road is complete, workers will move on to their next full-depth reclamation along Thompson Road, from Hopewell Road to just south of Tabbystone Pass. Crews will also repave and patch some neighborhood and other roads this summer.
