Fulton County Water Services will soon be working along part of Hopewell Road as part of a project that will impact trees and certainly the roadway, resulting in eventual delays.

This is entirely a Fulton County project, with the City having no direct involvement. Still, we want to inform people about what’s happening – likely starting sometime this week – as best we can, cognizant of this project’s potential impacts. 

County contractors will be doing the needed water line-related work along Hopewell Road between the Bethany Bend roundabout and around Old Northpark Lane (which is the entrance to the North Park neighborhood). 

This construction requires the removal of one tree.  The County indicated that it will contact all property owners if a tree on or near their property will be affected. 

In the future, the contractor will work on the underground water lines – an effort that, as one might expect, could be disruptive to travelers and neighbors. Throughout this project, people should prepare for intermittent single-lane closures and general delays. 

All this work will occur within the City’s right-of-way (so not private properties, which is why no additional land must be acquired). In addition to trees, fences in the right-of-way may be impacted; if they are, Fulton County Water Services has vowed to re-set them. The County should also replace damaged landscaping around the Hopewell/Bethany Bend roundabout as part of this project. 

The project is projected to take 5 to 6 weeks, meaning it should wrap up before the new school year begins. As with most any outdoor work on this scale, inclement weather and other factors could push back that timeline.
