The Morris Road widening-and-then-some project continues moving along. And a new traffic shift speaks to that.

 

Lanes have shifted between Bethany Bend and the Webb Road roundabout. So the standard two lanes of traffic have been bumped from left side to the right side of what will eventually be a wider, four-lane (so two in each direction) Morris Road. The change shouldn’t affect travel times, congestion, or whatever else.

 

Such intermittent traffic shifts are standard for projects of this scale. And while drivers may notice the new lane configuration, there’s plenty of progress happening throughout the corridor. The 10-foot-wide multi-use path and 5-foot-wide sidewalk are each about 80% complete, the demolition of the old Webb Road roundabout is finished, and crews are now pouring new concrete while preserving the center island.

 

When complete, the roundabout will feature decorative colored concrete, adding a polished look to this gateway into the area. Work has also begun on the new landscaped median, the final stormwater infrastructure is being installed, and newly placed sod is already taking root.

 

Morris Road will widen from the existing Deerfield Avenue/Webb Road roundabout to McGinnis Ferry Road, where the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently opened the new State Route 400 interchange.

 

Other measures -- like sidewalks and wider multi-use path, stormwater improvements, and more -- are all part of this same project, as well as an eventual full-depth reclamation of the entire road.
