A nearly 7-acre property along Freemanville Road is the focus of two items on Tuesday’s Design Review Board meeting agenda.

Also known as DRB, Milton’s Design Review Board consists of seven individuals appointed by the City’s Mayor and Councilmembers. These board members make recommendations on new site development, new construction, and certain alterations to existing structures. The DRB also conducts courtesy reviews on requests for variances from the City Code as part of the public meeting process (meaning other committees may take up the same items), in addition to voting on approvals of demolition requests. 

One such demolition request – involving 14880 Freemanville Road – is on Tuesday’s agenda. The applicant is seeking to demolish a house, accessory structure, tobacco barn, and “smokehouse” shed on the 6.98-acre property not far north of Rolling Links Drive. Removing a concrete driveway and part of a gravel driveway is part of the same application. This same request was on DRB’s May agenda, at which an extension was granted to give Milton Historical Society members to research and evaluate preservation opportunities for historic structures proposed for demolition.

The next agenda item is a Courtesy Review related to a variance request regarding the same property. The applicant would like numerous structures – specifically a shed, run-in shed, guest house, future pool house, and pool – to be in front of the proposed primary house, which would require a variance. 

Tuesday’s meeting will close with another Courtesy Review, this one for 755 Mid Broadwell Road (which is the brick building at the corner of Mayfield, Mid Broadwell, and Broadwell roads). The applicant is seeking to renovate a structure built in 1904 with improvements intended to preserve its historic character while accommodating necessary repairs and modern accessibility requirements to allow for its continued use. 

After this meeting, the Design Review Board is next scheduled to convene on August 4.
