The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will hear the latest on underway and soon-to-be park improvements, as well as explore a possible fun addition to Milton’s program offerings when it convenes Thursday night.

Known as PRAB, Milton’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board consists of seven individuals appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers. They share their insights, expertise, and opinions on matters pertaining to Milton parks, recreational programs, and related policies. 

Each PRAB meeting – including Thursday’s – begins with “Committee Reports.” These are opportunities for members and staff to talk about what’s happening with various Milton-affiliated athletic, arts, adult, outdoor, and other programming (including camps). 

Then the committee will explore a potential new program to add to the mix: improv comedy classes and workshops. This offering out of City facilities would be captained by Amanda Rountree, who has extensive experience in improv and as an instructional leader. 

The agenda’s next item focuses on the Wall of Fame, a place in Bell Memorial Park to honor outstanding athletes, artists, coaches, and contributors with Milton roots. The nomination window for next year’s class recently closed, leaving PRAB with the charge of deciding on who will be in this year’s class. For more context, visit www.miltonga.gov/WallOfFame. 

PRAB then will discuss which two of its members will serve as representative advisors on the Greenprint – the City’s long-term strategy for the future of Milton’s greenspaces. 

The “New Business” part of Thursday’s agenda will close with a discussion of the process of allocating fields to athletic programs (for practices, games, etc.) this coming fall. 

City Staff then will share updates on these three important park projects:

• LEGACY PARK, where the process of expanding and reconfiguring the parking lot – among other upgrades – is progressing well
• MILTON CITY PARK AND PRESERVE’S ACTIVE PORTION, made up of 7 acres that will soon be transformed (starting in August) with a new playground, better lighting, parking lot upgrades, plus the creation of six tennis courts as well as related components
• MILTON CITY PARK AND PRESERVE’S TRAIL SURFACE, with the City trying out crushed slate on 100 feet of the trail while public input is gathered on how best to address challenges

After Thursday, PRAB is next scheduled to meet on August 20.
