The new traffic signal at Crabapple Road and Green Road should be operational soon – which means, for the first time, drivers along Crabapple Road may have to stop there.

Late last week, the Georgia Department of Transportation put up message boards indicating this development should happen on July 30. (Note: GDOT later gave a new planned activation date of August 12.) In other words, how vehicles move through that intersection could change entirely starting in a few days. (It’s possible that there may be flashing yellow lights sometime before then.) 

After collaborating with the City, GDOT installed this signal to improve safety at that key intersection. While there has a been a stop sign for those coming from Green Road for some time, this left it up to drivers to estimate if there was a sufficient gap to enter Crabapple Road traffic. 

That’s changing. When the new signal is fully activated, those driving along Crabapple Road could get a red signal indicating they need to stop. At that point, drivers coming from Green Road will be able turn onto Crabapple when the light turns green. (Needless to say, those on Green Road turning left onto Crabapple must stop themselves if they have their own red light.) 

If you’re in that area after the change takes place, please be especially cautious as it can take time for people to get accustomed to altered traffic patterns like this.
