The City of Milton's working draft of the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update is now available for public review and discussion at upcoming City Council meetings.

While the Council is set to vote Monday on transmitting this document to the State, the working draft will stay open for public comment and continued Council review throughout the required review process.

Unlike five years ago, this “Comp Plan” update is not a start-to-finish rewrite but, instead, represents a focused update. It retains large sections of the 2021-approved version, such as that plan’s vision, mission, and policies. The select modifications it does include ensure it is both current (incorporating elements of other recently Council-adopted plans, such as the Destination Deerfield initiatives) and looking forward. The latter is reflected in the “draft short-term work program,” which is a list of priority projects that can guide City’s work through 2031. 

This working draft reflects input from the 16-member Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, residents who participated through the online engagement process, and those at the well-attended public open house in late June. This collaborative approach is consistent with Milton’s commitment to listening to, evaluating, and incorporating community input into its long-range planning efforts. 

People will have another opportunity to share their thoughts at the August 3 City Council meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda includes a public hearing featuring a presentation highlighting the working draft 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update, followed by an opportunity for citizens to provide comments.

At that same meeting, the Council can vote to authorize transmittal of the working draft plan to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs as well as Atlanta Regional Commission for review. During that required review period, residents will continue to have opportunities to provide public input while the Mayor and Council continue reviewing the draft and providing direction before considering adoption of a final plan this fall.
