Milton’s Design Review Board returns Tuesday to City Hall with a single item on its agenda – a final architectural and building review.

Known as the DRB, this committee’s seven appointed members vote on demolition requests made to the City. They also conduct courtesy reviews on requests for variances from City Code as part of the public meeting process (meaning other committees can take up the same matters). The Design Review Board also makes recommendations to the City’s Community Development Director on certain alterations to existing structures as well as certain new site development and new construction.

The latter is what Tuesday’s lone agenda item (beyond a vote to approve the previous meeting’s minutes) is all about.

It applies to 12475 and 12505 Broadwell Road, two parcels that total about 7 acres near the Alpharetta line adjacent to the Crabapple Crossing neighborhood. The property is zoned T-4 and T-2 within the Crabapple Form-Based code area.

In addition to detached single-family homes fronting Broadwell Road, the applicant has proposed building three townhome structures (for a total of 15 units) on the site. (The townhomes would be behind the single-family residences, thus not on the main road.) 

An entry-side driveway and walking pathway is proposed for each row, with elevations embellished with architectural details including gable brackets, board and batten shutters, and decorative railings. Lastly, the proposed material colors are earth tones that contrast to one another. 

The same Design Review Board conducted a courtesy review for this same Urbandale Townhomes proposal on June 9, during which members offered several recommendations. Tuesday represents their chance to give a final architectural and building review.

After Tuesday’s meeting, the DRB is next scheduled to convene on September 1.
