Citizens can bring items to Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Bring certain potentially dangerous substances and items now clogging your garage and basement next month to the City’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event – an opportunity to dispose of them in a safe, environmentally-friendly manner.
The collection itself will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 26, in Cambridge High School’s parking lot. While that event remains several weeks away, registration will open on Monday, September 14, at www.miltonga.gov/HHWCollection. (Note: This link will not work until that date.)
Registration for this event is required and is offered on a first come, first served basis to Milton residents. Available spots have filled-up quickly in the past, so be prepared to register sooner than later and to have your event registration confirmed as you queue to drop off your household hazardous waste.
This free City-run event covers a wide variety of hazardous materials including:
- Aerosol paint/spray cans
- Automotive liquids such as transmission fluid, brake fluid, and motor oil
Batteries (including automotive and single-use household varieties)
- Cylinders containing helium, propane, or fire extinguishers
- Flammable liquids like gas, kerosene, and what’s in lighters
- Fluorescent bulbs and tubes
- Gardening chemicals (i.e. pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers)
- Household cleaning products
- Mercury-containing items
- Pool chemicals
- Stain or varnish (up to 10 gallons)
Most paints are not on that list. Cambridge High’s theatre program, though, will hold its own annual paint recycling fundraiser during that same time and in that same parking lot. They will charge fees based on the type and amount of paint. No advance registration is required to bring in paint (unlike the City component of this event).
