The Milton Equestrian Committee will hear about recently approved amendments to City Code that could impact AG-1 lots, among other items, when it meets on Wednesday.

Made up of seven individuals appointed by the Mayor and Council, the Milton Equestrian Committee considers matters of importance to the equestrian and related communities. Its members share their advice, insights, expertise, and opinions on these topics with City staff and officials, including City Council.

Wednesday’s meeting will begin with a welcome and introduction to MEC’s newest member, Kathy Gilker. Gilker is an accomplished horsewoman with more than five decades of experience riding, training, breeding, raising, and showing a variety of horses in numerous disciplines.

This will be followed by a presentation by Community Development staff regarding amendments related to zoning and building on properties zoned AG-1, which are one-acre or larger parcels that comprise most of Milton’s land area. This presentation will offer Equestrian Committee members the opportunity to learn about what has changed from the perspective of AG-1 lot owners.

The committee then will revisit the possibility of partnering with Milton Parks and Recreation on an equestrian camp, ideally starting in summer 2027. One element that committee and City staff have been working on has been finding a quality, available facility for such a camp.

Wednesday’s meeting will conclude with a discussion of an ongoing effort to collect valuable input from the owners of Milton horse farms and certain larger lots.

Earlier this month, the City mailed out postcards to hundreds of households who have horse farms and/or live on AG-1lots. These contained links to one of two surveys. MEC and the City encourages citizens who received these mailings to take these brief surveys. Their feedback can contribute to a better understanding of current needs as the City explores how to support long-term ownership of such farms/larger lots as part of efforts to preserve Milton’s unique character.
