Deerfield Parkway future parkThe City plans to create a new active park on over 24 acres -- purchased in 2024 in two separate installments -- along Deerfield Parkway. This facility will include athletic fields as well as other features and amenities.

Citizens can play an important role in deciding the look, feel, and possibilities of this park by participating in a multi-faceted public engagement process.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

People have had many opportunities to share ideas, ask questions, and generally play a pivotal role in planning the new active park in Milton's Deerfield area. These includes in-person events and weighing in online.

This public engagement actually began before the City closed on the first and March 25 Deerfield park open houselargest of two land purchases for this future park property. That feedback helped inform the sketch shown here. This graphic is not final by any means; rather, it is a starting block for further public engagement that began after the City partnered with Lose Design to draft a conceptual design for this property.

The first "Open House" of 2025 took place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Milton Municipal Court (13690 Highway 9, in the back/Police building of the Public Safety Complex). People circulated around the room contributing ideas to vision boards and talking to project team members. The City also unveiled a survey asking (among other things), what features in addition to athletic fields citizens wanted at the park.

At another "Open House" engagement event on Tuesday, March 25, again at Milton Municipal Court, citizens saw -- and shared thoughts on -- three new concept plan proposals that took into account previous public engagement. They showed different mixes of fields and other features.

The final draft concept plan was presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at its May 15 meeting. Stay tuned to this webpage, the City's social media, and City emails (sign-up for those HERE) for information on those.

ANSWER: This property was purchased in two chunks. The first -- for 21.37 acres -- Girls Lacrossehappened in the first half of 2024. Then, in fall 2024, the City reached an agreement to acquire an additional 3.05 acres that were directly south of the previously purchased property.

QUESTION: Did citizens have the chance to weigh in before these purchases?

ANSWER: Yes. The City invited people to share their thoughts at special Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meetings held in 2024 before the City had closed the initially acquired property.

QUESTION: What will be in this park?

ANSWER: The exact components are still to be determined. Still, it's been established that this will be an "active park" -- so including athletic fields and other facilities where recreational programs can take place.
